A woman strangled her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter to death in Bengaluru, the police said on Friday. The woman allegedly killed the child as she was autistic.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Bengaluru South said the accused woman has twin girls, both of whom are autistic.

While one of her daughters is mildly autistic, the other one was severely autistic. The mildly autistic girl had taken admission in a pre-school.

The DCP said the woman killed the other daughter on Thursday and surrendered herself at the Subramanya Nagar Police Station.

"Upon questioning, the mother said she was worried about how her daughter would lead her life as she was autistic and hence, she decided to murder her," the DCP said.

"The mother was depressed from the past few months over the fact that her daughter was severely autistic and killed her on Thursday," the DCP said.

"The woman has been arrested, and we will produce her in court. Further investigation is on," he said.
