KOLKATA: India pacer Mukesh Kumar was instrumental for
Sobisco Smashers Malda
’s comfortable seven-wicket victory against Lux
Shyam Kolkata Tigers
in the
Bengal Pro T20 League
at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.
The India pacer bowled with lots of fire to restrict the Tigers to 117 for eight in 20 overs after Mukesh won the toss and put the rivals in.
Bengal opener Jayojit Basu then scored a fine 50-ball 55 to script an easy victory.
In spite of getting a decent start, the Tigers could not carry on the momentum and lost way in the middle stage. Opener Subham Chatterjee showed a lot of grit for his 35 that came off 40 balls with the help of four boundaries.
Akash Pandey gave him good support as the duo stitched together a 32-run fifth-wicket stand. Pandey hit four sixes before finally falling to Mukesh after a 30-run innings.
Mukesh finished with three for 10 in his four overs that included one maiden over too.
Akhil Nandy (2-17) also bowled well for the Smashers.
While chasing, the Smashers were in some trouble losing two wickets inside the first six overs. But Jayojit and Writam Porel kept their cool to put up a 62-run third-wicket stand. Jayojit hit five boundaries and two sixes during his knock. Porel on the other hand remained undefeated on 35 playing 36 deliveries and hitting two fours and one six.
For the Tigers, Akash was the most successful bowler, bagging two for 10 in his four overs.
