LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A major beach restoration project is underway in Oyster Bay. Crews are working to move 90,000 tons of sand, brought in from Fire Island and dumped along Oyster Bay's shoreline.
The town says the beach has been practically non-existent for four years in a row because of storms eroding the environment.
Town officials say they will continue to push to develop a long-term solution that hardens the shoreline with additional sand and keeps public access to the beach for Long Islanders.
