Robert Lewandowski finally reached a personal milestone against Athletic Club, scoring his 100th and 101st goals for Barcelona in their final La Liga match of the 2024/25 season.

It was a moment the Polish striker had been chasing for weeks, having gone without a goal since his brace against Borussia Dortmund in early April during the Champions League quarter-finals.

The long wait came down to bad luck and timing. A minor injury kept Lewandowski out for part of the campaign and broke the rhythm he had built up.

But in the final match against Athletic Club, he was back on the scoresheet, reminding fans of his quality.

He scored twice before being substituted for Pau Victor, just minutes before Dani Olmo added a third from the penalty spot, rounding off a 3-0 win for Barcelona.

Missed out on Pichichi

Lewandowski’s two goals took his La Liga tally to 27 for the season. While impressive, it wasn’t enough to claim the Pichichi or the Golden Boot, both of which went to Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who netted 31.

Lewandowski, however, was focused on the team’s success: “We knew it was the last game and we had a plan to win.

We played very well in the first half and had everything under control. It’s been an almost perfect season, and now we’re enjoying this moment.

“After the injury, I needed time to get back in form. But as a team, we have won titles, and that is what really matters,” he explained.

Barcelona ended the season with three silverware and strong performances, and Lewandowski’s contribution throughout the campaign was crucial, even if individual awards slipped away.

Meanwhile, after the final whistle, Lewandowski also took a moment to recognise Oscar De Marcos, who played his last professional match.

“It’s a beautiful moment, but also sad. Every footballer should enjoy this kind of farewell,” Lewandowski shared.
