A barber who allegedly murdered two children at their home in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun was shot dead in an encounter, police said on Wednesday. The brutal murder sparked tension in the city on Tuesday evening but the situation is under control now, they added.
The man identified as Sajid ran a barbershop opposite the victims' house in Baba Colony and knew their father, Vinod. On Tuesday evening, he entered the house and asked the family for tea, police said. When they left the room, he climbed to the terrace where Vinod's three children Aayush (13), Ahaan (7) and Piyush (6) were playing.
He slit the throats of the two elder brothers and also attacked the six-year-old before fleeing the scene, police said. While Aayush and Ahaan died, Piyush sustained minor injuries.
Sajid was caught nearby but he tried to attack the police and was killed in an encounter. According to the police, the motive behind the murders was an ongoing dispute with the children's father.
Budaun District Magistrate Manoj Kumar said the police received information about the crime and the subsequent protest by the locals. He called on people to maintain peace.
