NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Those mini shampoo, conditioner, and lotion bottles will soon disappear from large hotels across New York City.
The change comes because of a new ban on single-use plastics set to go into effect on January 1, 2025. The ban applies to hotels with 50 or more rooms. Meanwhile, smaller accommodations will have until 2026 to make the same changes.
Those found breaking the rules could pay a $250 fine, with additional violations leading to a $500 fine.
New York will become the second state after California to implement the single-use plastics ban on hotels. Some hotels have already started transitioning to using larger pump bottles or shampoo bars similar to bars of soap.
