Baby with trauma on body dies on Staten Island, parents in police custody: sources

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A baby boy with 'visible' trauma to his left arm was taken to a Staten Island hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday morning, officials said.

Police from the 120th precinct responded to a 911 call for aid located on 240 Broadway at 6:46 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 1-month-old baby boy unconscious and unresponsive. EMS transported the child to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

'Visible' signs of trauma to the left arm were seen on the baby, police said.

Two individuals, identified as the parents, were taken into police custody. Doctors at the hospital found an injury, possibly a burn, that is believed to have been a week old, police sources said.

The office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York will determine the cause of death. An investigation is currently ongoing, police said.
