NEW DELHI: Pakistan's captain
Babar Azam
has surpassed all others to become the most successful T20I skipper with an impressive 45 wins under his leadership.
This achievement came after Pakistan's remarkable victory over Ireland, where they successfully chased down a challenging total of 193/7 with more than three overs to spare.
The partnership between
Mohammad Rizwan
, who scored an unbeaten 75, and
Fakhar Zaman
, who contributed 78 runs, was instrumental in Pakistan's triumph.
Babar's record-breaking 45th T20I win as a captain puts him ahead of Aaron Finch of Australia, who has 40 victories, and Uganda's Brian Masaba, who has 44 wins in all men's T20Is.
Other notable captains on the list include Eoin Morgan, England's 2019 World Cup-winning skipper, with 42 victories, and MS Dhoni and
Rohit Sharma
, both tied at 41 wins each. Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan also shares the third spot with Morgan, having secured 42 victories in this format.
Although Babar himself failed to score against Ireland, falling to a Graham Hume delivery in the second over, Rizwan and Fakhar's powerful partnership of 140 runs quickly turned the game in Pakistan's favour. Fakhar showcased his hitting prowess by smashing six sixes, while Rizwan played a steady supporting role.
Despite Fakhar's dismissal in the 15th over, which gave Ireland a glimmer of hope, Azam Khan's explosive unbeaten 30 from just 10 deliveries ensured Pakistan's victory. The third and final match of the series is set to take place in Dublin on Tuesday.
