PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the ghat sections in Pune and Raigad districts for the next three days. In response to the heavy rainfall alerts in several areas of Maharashtra, authorities have enforced prohibitory orders, and several tourist spots have been closed.
To ensure the safety of tourists, the Pune district administration has enforced prohibitory orders across various popular picnic spots in the district, including Bhushi dam and other locations in and around Lonavla.
These measures were taken following the recent tragedy on June 30, where five members of a family were swept away by the gushing waters at Bhushi Dam.
On Sunday, the Pune rural police evacuated all visitors from Bhushi Dam around 5.30pm after the flow of tourists became quite high.
Additionally, a popular trekking route leading to Sinhagad fort, starting from Atkarwadi village at the foothills, has been closed for visitors after boulders fell onto the path in the early hours of Sunday.
The Nashik rural police have also strengthened security measures at various tourist spots in the district to prevent unwarranted incidents and ensure the safety of tourists.
Superintendent of police (rural) Vikram Deshmane stated, “Prohibition orders have been issued at the district collectorate level. The orders are being strictly implemented on weekends.”
Deshmane noted that heightened security measures are primarily in place at locations like Bhavali Dam in Igatpuri, Pahine along the Ghoti-Trimbakeshwar road, and Dugarwadi, among others, due to a significant influx of tourists.
