Autorickshaw driver arrested for murder of Punjab DSP

Jalandhar commissionerate of police

arrested an

auto-rickshaw driver

for the

murder

of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Dalbir Singh on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1. After scanning the footage of CCTV cameras, police zeroed in on the accused and

arrested

him.
The body of the DSP, a recipient of Arjuna Award who was posted in Punjab Armed Police, was found near Basti Bawa Khel canal with a bullet injury to his head.

Commissioner of police Swapan Sharma said the accused, amid an argument, snatched the DSP's pistol and fired at him. The bullet pierced through his head and killed him. He said the murder was the aftermath of a momentary altercation between the DSP and the accused. The DSP's service pistol has also been recovered.
