NEW YORK (PIX11) – AT&T is compensating customers who were affected by the cellphone outage last week that left them without service for hours.

Customers are getting $5 for the inconvenience, which has led to some criticism on social media.

Customers can expect to see the credit on their account within two billing cycles. Thousands of users across the country were impacted by the network outage.

AT&T blamed the outage on a coding error. The payment is supposed to be how much customers pay for a day of service, the company said.
