VARANASI: Archaeological Survey of India on Monday filed its report on

scientific study

and survey of

Gyanvapi mosque

before the court of district judge in two

sealed envelopes

. Court fixed December 21 for next hearing in this case.
Standing government counsel (Government of India) Amit Srivastava said that the report of scientific study and survey of Gyanvapi mosque ordered by the district judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha on July 21 to ascertain whether it stands atop a Hindu temple, had been submitted before the court on Monday afternoon.

Court fixed December 21 as next date for its disposal.”
Before submission of this report one of defendants Anjuman Intejamia Masajid (Gyanvapi mosque management committee) moved an application before the district judge with a prayer to ensure that the survey report is submitted by the ASI in a sealed cover and be not supplied to any of the parties unless a personal undertaking is submitted by the way of affidavit stating that the report will not be leaked nor any comments made thereupon until the examination of the commissioners have been examined, said AIM advocate Akhlaqe Ahmad.
Submission of report in sealed envelope was strongly opposed by advocate of four women plaintiffs in suit no. 18/2022 Vishnua Jain. “There is no provision of filing report of ASI survey in sealed cover nor the Supreme Court had issued any order in this regard. We registered our objection before the district judge and also demanded copy of the ASI survey report”, said Jain while talking to TOI. He said that court will dispose the demand of women plaintiffs on December 21.

Earlier, in view of the arrival of ASI team to file its report on Gyanvapi survey heavy police force was deployed in and around the district court compound. Around 2 pm four-member team of ASI led by superintending archaeologist Avinash Mohanty reached the court with two sealed envelopes. One sealed envelope contained the survey report while list of articles found in debris at Gyanvapi mosque compound and deposited in treasury under supervision of district magistrate in November, was filed in other sealed envelope, confirmed Srivastava.
