NEW DELHI: Premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently stunned the cricketing world with his abrupt retirement in the middle of the
Border-Gavaskar Trophy
in Australia.
Ashwin, who was not part of the first Test in Perth, did feature in the second day-night Test but was then ignored for the third game.
Soon after the Brisbane Test ended in a draw, Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket in the post-match presser, taking everyone by surprise.

With Ashwin retirement making headlines, there were also murmurs that the 38-year-old called it quits after 'humiliation' in the dressing room.
Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary also believes that the veteran was indeed insulted and the entire Ashwin retirement episode has not been handled well by the team management.
"I see Ashwin was insulted. See players like Washington Sundar and Tanush Kotian... they are all quality spinners and performed well in first-class cricket," Tiwary told news agency PTI.
"But when you have a player of Ashwin's calibre, what is the need for you to bring in Washington in the home series where Ashwin is there, Jadeja is there, and Kuldeep is there, and make him bowl more overs than Ashwin. Is that not an insult to Ashwin?
"Will he just carry on, after giving so many match-winning performances? He will not come and say that because he is a nice guy.
"But one day he will definitely come out and he will share his experience. This is not the right process. They are also players, and they also need some patting on the back and dignity as well," Tiwary said.

Ashwin took 537 wickets in his 106 Tests at an average of 24.00, leaving him seventh on the all-time list and second only to Anil Kumble (619) for his country. He also played 116 one-day and 65 Twenty20 internationals.
Ashwin made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies and was also handy with the bat, scoring 3,503 runs with six centuries and 14 fifties. He also played 116 one-dayers and 65 Twenty20 internationals.
