NEW DELHI: Indian off-spinner
Ravichandran Ashwin
showcased his prowess in his 100th Test match by delivering a stellar performance, earning him the coveted top spot in the
ICC
bowlers' rankings.
Meanwhile, his skipper
Rohit Sharma
made a significant climb to sixth position in the batting charts, as per the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday.
Ashwin's exceptional display during the
Dharamsala Test
against England saw him claim nine crucial wickets, with four scalps in the first innings and a remarkable five-wicket haul in the second innings.
His outstanding contribution played a pivotal role in India's dominant victory in the fifth Test of the series, propelling him back to the premier position in the bowlers' rankings, a position he had previously held earlier this year.
Rohit, who showcased his batting prowess with a splendid century in the Dharamsala Test, ascended five places to reach sixth in the batting rankings. His stellar performance puts him within striking distance of the top-ranked Test batter,
Kane Williamson
, with a gap of only 108 rating points.
The impressive individual performances extended beyond Ashwin and Rohit Sharma, with rising talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill also making significant strides in the rankings. Jaiswal climbed two places to eighth, while Gill surged 11 spots to achieve a career-best joint 20th position.
Jasprit Bumrah
now holds the joint second spot with Australia's Josh Hazlewood, whose contributions in the second Test against New Zealand earned him recognition. His six-wicket haul in Christchurch saw him move into a tie with Bumrah.
Ashwin's teammate Kuldeep Yadav also made notable progress in the rankings, soaring 15 places to 16th overall after his stellar performance against England, which earned him the Player of the Match accolade.
In the all-rounders' rankings, India's
Ravindra Jadeja
maintained a comfortable lead over the rest of the field, while notable movers included Australia's Pat Cummins and New Zealand's Matt Henry, who climbed to eighth and 11th positions, respectively.
