BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Arson is possibly the cause of a Brooklyn apartment fire that injured nine people early Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.
The fire broke out on Evergreen Avenue in Bushwick around 2:50 a.m. It had started on the first floor, according to the FDNY.
A man in his 60s was seen starting the fire with an unknown substance inside the building, witnesses told police.
Nine people suffered from smoke inhalation, according to authorities.
At least 17 people were inside the building when the fire broke out, including nine children, per fire officials.
The fire was put out around 3:30 a.m., according to the FDNY. The man fled the building in an unknown direction, per police.
