NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians captain
Hardik Pandya
brought in
Arjun Tendulkar
, the son of legendary
Sachin Tendulkar
, in his team's last match of the
IPL 2024
against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Arjun, who replaced star pacer
Jasprit Bumrah
in the final eleven, is playing his first match of the IPL 2024.
Arjun played four matches last season, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, claimed 3 wickets, and scored 13 runs.
"We're going to bowl. Chasing is better in Wankhede. It comes on nicer in the evening. It's always about playing for the badge, playing for pride - all those words are important in the group. We know where we stand. But ending the season playing good cricket will always be appreciated. It gives us more freedom maybe to go out there and express ourselves. A couple of changes: No Bumrah so in comes Arjun Tendulkar. Tilak Varma is out injured so Brevis gets a chance, Tim David is out as well," MI skipper Pandya said during the toss.
Known for his curved run-up and a genuine outswinger, Arjun possesses the ability to swing the ball late and at a significant pace.
Mumbai Indians recognised his all-around capabilities and signed him at the base price of Rs 20 lakh in the 2021 auctions.
Ahead of the 15th season, Mumbai Indians retained Arjun for Rs. 30 lakhs.
Arjun's journey from a young fan waving the MI flag in the stands to proudly donning the MI jersey is a testament to his enduring connection with the Blue and Gold.
As the son of arguably the greatest cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, and an icon of Mumbai Indians, Arjun has evolved into a dependable all-rounder.
Tall, quick, and adept at both batting and bowling swing, Arjun initiated his domestic career with Mumbai before transitioning to Goa in 2022, where he assumed the role of leading the attack in first-class cricket.
