Are New York City's wild animals coping in the winter?

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- Many New Yorkers might be wondering: are wild animals acclimating to the frigid weather this winter?

According to the New York City Department, the city's wild animals have adapted to handle harsh weather.

Why do pigeons stay in NYC during winter?

Chipmunks and beavers store food and nest in their habitats to stay warm. Birds such as cardinals and geese fluff their feathers out to create extra warm pockets around them, according to the agency.

However, the parks department is urging people to call 311 if they spot an injured animal and to give it space.
