NEW YORK (PIX11) – The tri-state area is getting drenched Wednesday morning as heavy rain and gusty winds sweep across New York and New Jersey.
New York City Emergency Management issued a travel advisory through Thursday due to rainfall and expected flooding. Officials urge New Yorkers to use mass transit and leave extra time for travel.
At least two to three inches of rain is expected in the Big Apple, according to PIX11 meteorologists. Gusts of over 55 mph will sometimes be possible, which may bring down some tree limbs and cause power outages.
"We’ve got our eyes on everything right now. We’ve been running the interagency process to make sure the city is prepared. It’s really about the afternoon commute. If you can take public transportation do that," said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zachary Iscol.
The city is also under a flood watch and high wind warning through Thursday, according to Notify NYC.
