It appears that
Apple
is planning to bring back the “iWork” reference for its
productivity apps
-- Pages, Numbers and Keynotes” back. According to a report by BuyAIdomains.com, Apple has bought a new
domain
-- iWork.ai which indicates that Apple may bring back the
iWork
reference for its productivity apps and also introduce Artificial Intelligence to these apps.
For those who don’t know, Apple used to refer to its productivity apps -- Pages, Numbers and Keynote -- as iWork and even launched a website called “iWork.com”. Also, the company used to club iMovie, GarageBand, and a few others as an iLife collection.
Meanwhile, the iWork.ai domain is not active. Also, registering a new domain does not mean that Apple is planning a groundbreaking move to bring iWork back to life. However, it does indicate that Apple may introduce some AI-powered features to Pages, Numbers and Keynote apps in future.
This looks like Apple taking on the competition like Google’s Gemini integration into Docs, Sheets, etc and Microsoft’s Copilot into Word, Excel and other productivity apps.
Another aspect behind buying a new domain can be to prevent others from registering the domain name -- iWork.ai -- and make it secure for future aspects, in case.
Now, the latter aspect makes more sense here considering Apple already has 543 different website domains registered and even some of them have wrong spellings like “www.zapple.com” redirects to “www.apple.com”
Apple’s WWDC 24 to be AI-focused
It is rumoured that Apple is planning to go big with
AI
in WWDC 24. The company has recently introduced its new AI-powered LLM that edits images at the core level and offers users the option to alter a particular part within the image.
It is expected that Apple will bring a couple of AI features to iOS rather than adding AI to specific apps.
