Apple’s first foldable may also be its largest-screen device, here’s how

Apple

is reportedly working on a

foldable MacBook

with a 20.3-inch screen, aiming for a 2027 release, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kuo stated that this foldable

MacBook

is the only foldable device from Apple with a clear development schedule, suggesting that the company's plans for a

foldable iPhone

or

iPad

are still in the experimental phase.

Kuo's report aligns with previous rumours from display industry analyst Ross Young and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who mentioned Apple's interest in launching a foldable device with a 20-inch display. Young had mentioned that Apple had been exploring the idea of foldable notebooks. Gurman corroborated this report, stating that the company was interested in launching a foldable device with a 20-inch display.
The exact design details of the foldable MacBook remain unclear at this point. However, the device is expected to have a screen that measures around 20 inches diagonally when fully expanded. This would make it significantly larger than Apple's current largest laptop, the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Apple previously offered a 17-inch MacBook Pro, which was discontinued in 2012.
Rumours about Apple's foldable devices have been circulating for some time, with most focusing on devices similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip. Earlier this year, _The Information_ reported that Apple has been exploring the idea of a foldable

iPhone

since 2018 with two different prototypes – one resembling a regular phone and the other more similar to a foldable iPad. However, a Chinese blogger claimed that Apple's prototypes failed to pass quality tests, and the projects were temporarily shelved.

Kuo's latest report suggests that while Apple may still be experimenting with foldable iPhones and iPads, the foldable MacBook is the only device with a clear development schedule. This indicates that the company is more confident in the viability and potential success of a foldable laptop than its smaller counterparts.
However, it is essential to note that the foldable MacBook is still several years away from release, and Apple's plans may change in the interim. As with any rumor or leak, it is best to take this information with a grain of salt until the company makes official announcements.
