Do you feel your iPhone battery runs out way too fast, or is your battery life below 90 per cent? This might be because you're not taking proper care of your iPhone. According to Apple, users can improve the battery life of their iPhones by maintaining both battery health and battery lifespan.

"Battery life" refers to the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged, while "battery lifespan" refers to the overall time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced. To help users maximise battery life, here are five tips, according to Apple, to help you get the most out of your iPhone's battery.

1. Keep your iPhone updated: Keeping your iPhone up to date with the latest iOS version is very important. The updates not only bring features but also important fixes which often impact battery life. By updating your iPhone with the latest version of iOS, you can optimise battery life and overall device efficiency. Apple recommends regularly updating your iPhone's software to benefit from the latest enhancements.

2. Keep your iPhone cool: Apple has designed the iPhone to operate best within an ideal temperature range. According to the tech giant, its iPhones work well in temperatures between 16° and 22°C (62° to 72°F) and don't fare well in extreme temperatures. Hence exposing your device to high temperatures above 35°C (95°F) can cause permanent damage to battery capacity, shortening its lifespan and reducing its ability to hold a charge. Conversely, using your device in very cold environments may temporarily decrease battery life, but performance returns to normal once the temperature stabilises. So keeping your iPhone within the ideal temperature range helps maintain optimal battery health.

3. Remove the case while charging: Some iPhone phone cases can trap heat during charging, which can negatively impact battery health. If you notice your device gets hot during charging, Apple advises removing it from its case. Doing so allows heat to dissipate more efficiently, preserving your battery's health and longevity.

4. Half-charge your iPhone when not in use: When storing your iPhone for an extended period, such as during a vacation or when you need a backup phone, ensure the battery is around 50 per cent charged before powering it down. Storing the device with a fully charged or fully discharged battery can harm its lifespan and lead to deep discharge states. Additionally, store the device in a cool, dry environment below 32°C (90°F) to avoid further battery damage. Additionally, if you are storing your iPhone for more than six months, recharge the battery to 50 per cent every six months.

5. Turn on Low Power Mode: Apple introduced Low Power Mode with iOS 9. This feature helps save battery life and optimise performance by reducing display brightness, minimising animations, and temporarily disabling background app refresh. Low Power Mode can be activated when your battery reaches 20 per cent and again at 10 per cent. Alternatively, you can enable Low Power Mode manually through Settings > Battery. However, it is important to note that when Low Power Mode is enabled, some background operations like mail fetching and iCloud sync are disabled to conserve battery power on your iPhone.
