NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A man created an app that is the first real-time New York City subway map, and it is available to download.
The first version of The Weekendest was created in 2019 in about two weeks, according to its developer, Sunny Ng. He started developing the idea a year earlier when the MTA first released real-time data feeds, he told PIX11 News.
"I wanted to create an app that fills a niche that is not covered by any existing apps. For instance, I regularly make the same commute to work every day, so it really doesn't make sense for me to use a trip planner, and that's what every transit navigation app offers, but I already know what route to take," he told PIX11 News. Instead, I wanted to focus on how to get on a train that you know you want to get on, and when the next transfer is, so you know if you need to hustle."
The website is so helpful that it accounts for weekend and holiday schedules and labels skipped stations on routes.
"My ultimate goal for the app is to provide subway riders something they can't already get with existing apps," Ng said.
The Weekendest is available for download on the Apple App Store and online at theweekendest.com/trains.
