Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently opened up about battling depression with the help of his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap and friends Taapsee Pannu, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anubhav Sinha and Sudhir Mishra.
Anurag Kashyap says his friends 'fixed' him during battle with depression.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap opened up about dealing with depression and alcoholism with the help of his daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, and his friends in the film industry, including Taapsee Pannu, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anubhav Sinha, and Sudhir Mishra. Kashyap said that Taapsee would often call him to check on his health, and Sinha threw away all his alcohol bottles.
Anurag credited his daughter Aaliyah, who often spreads awareness on mental health, for pushing him into therapy. "Even my friends and partners have been there," the filmmaker told Zoom.
"Nawazuddin Siddiqui regularly messages me enquiring about my health, 'Bhai aapki health theek hai? Kuch chahiye toh nahin?' (Brother, are you fine? Do you need anything?)" Taapsee Pannu calls me and asks, 'Zinda Ho'. Kaise chal raha hai? Health kaisa hai? (Are you alive? How are things going on? How is your health?)" shared Kashyap.
Even his fellow filmmakers, Anubhav Sinha and Sudhir Mishra, ensured that Kashyap was doing fine.
"Anubhav Sinha is incredible for the way he keeps a check on me. He is always checking on me, how much I am smoking or drinking. Once he came, he and my daughter got together and threw away all the (alcohol) bottles," said Anurag Kashyap.
The 'Gangs of Wasseypur' director said people around him were focused on 'fixing' him. He continued, "Sudhir Mishra, he went out of his way to book me into a place to fix me. There are people in my life who I am grateful for. (Vikramaditya) Motwane, Ishika, is always concerned and wanting to make sure I am fixed.”
Anurag Kashyap had earlier spoken about suffering from depression after his daughter started getting trolled and receiving rape threats on social media because of his stance on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). This led to her getting anxiety attacks.
Kashyap, who is also often seen on-screen, will next be seen in Disney+ Hotstar's 'Bad Cop'. It will stream from June 21.
