PARK SLOPE, Brooklyn (PIX11) – The mother of a 19-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in Brooklyn Sunday delivered a message to her daughter’s killer — who still hasn't been caught.
Lashawn Goodson has been in anguish since the death of her 19-year-old daughter Samyia Spain, who was fatally stabbed outside a deli in Park Slope after rejecting a man's advances, according to a witness.
It happened during the early hours of Sunday morning. Samyia and her twin sister went to grab food at the deli. A man was apparently trying to hit on the two 19-year-olds. After rejecting his advances, things escalated from there.
At one point, the deli owner had to lock the doors to keep the man out. The twins thought the coast was clear, but once they walked out of the deli, the man was still there.
“My daughter Sanyia was arguing with the guy in [her sister’s] defense outside and he stabbed her and she went to the floor," Goodson said. “At that very moment, Samyia went to attack him and he stabbed her in the heart, and when she went down he stabbed her in the neck.”
Goodson is more than heartbroken about her daughter’s death, but she said the way she died makes the pain even worse.
“She didn't want to be bothered. Why did she have to die because you’re not who she wanted to be accompanied by?” Goodson said. “Walk away, don't hit on no girl, don't fight no female, no matter what. Go on about your business."
The grieving mother sent a message to the person responsible for her daughter's death.
“I just want him to suffer every day like I am,” Goodson said. “I want him to wake up every day in a cell, just like I have to wake up with my mind in a cell.”
No one has been arrested, but police have a clear picture of the suspect, sources told PIX11 News.
