Amtrak, NJ Transit service disrupted at Penn Station in NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Amtrak and NJ Transit service at Penn Station in New York City has been disrupted Wednesday evening due to downed overhead wires blocking the tracks, officials said.

Amtrak services between New York City and Newark are currently suspended, according to officials.

“As of 5:36 PM ET, Due to downed overhead power lines between Newark (NWK) and New York (NYP), All travel in the area is temporarily stopped. Crews are working to resolve the issue,” Amtrak Northeast said in a service alert.

Amtrak officials said they were unable to estimate when services in the area will resume.

“We will provide more updates as we receive them from personnel on the scene,” Amtrak said in a statement. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience as we work through this unexpected situation.”

The issue is also impacting some NJ Transit rail services in and out of Penn Station, officials said.

"NEC rail service is suspended in both directions between PSNY & Metropark. NJCL is suspended in both directions between PSNY & Long Branch & Raritan Valley Line service is suspended in both directions due to Amtrak overhead wire issues. Midtown direct is being diverted to Hoboken," NJ Transit said in a service alert.

NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, and 33rd Street-New York, according to officials.
