BHUBANESWAR: Maiden run of
Amrit
Bharat Express train, an indigenously built
train
with non-AC sleeper and unreserved coaches, got warm welcome at different railway stations in Odisha. This Malda Town-Bengaluru train was flagged off by prime minister
Narendra Modi
on Saturday.
The train which reached Bhubaneswar at 7.53am on Sunday was welcomed by Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Rajya Sabha members Sulata Deo and Muzibulla Khan, top officials of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) and common people.
Students and teachers from various schools, rail enthusiasts along with eminent personalities boarded the train and saw the amenities and safety features of the Amrit Bharat Express which departed Bhubaneswar station at 8pm.
The train reached Jaleswar station, first station after crossing West Bengal, at 9.05pm on Saturday and departed Berhampur, last station before entering Andhra Pradesh, at 10.30am on Sunday.
Elected representatives, social workers and railway officials welcomed the new train at different stations in the state amid rhythms of traditional drum beats and classical dance performances. People at various stations captured selfies with the Amrit Bharat Express train and took photographs of the train.
Amrit Bharat Express trains are a new category of superfast passenger trains in the country. It is a LHB push pull train with non air-conditioned (AC) coaches. This train has engines at both ends for better acceleration.
“It provides improved facilities for rail passengers like beautiful and attractive designed seats, better luggage rack, mobile charging point with suitable mobile holder, LED lights, CCTV, public information system, among others,” said the ECoR official statement.
Regular service for this train will commence from Malda Town with effect from January 7 and from SMVT Bengaluru January 9. This train will leave Malda Town on every Sunday at 8.50am and arrive at Bengaluru at 3am on Tuesdays.
In the return direction, this train will leave from SMVT Bengaluru on every Tuesday at 1.50pm and reach Malda Town at 11am on Thursdays. This train will have stoppages at Jaleswar, Balasore, Soro, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road and Berhampur in Odisha.
