NEW YORK (PIX11) -- You don't have to worry about moving your car on Friday morning.
Alternate Side Parking rules are suspended for Losar, the Tibetan Buddhist New Year.
Losar corresponds to the first day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar, which this year falls on Friday, Feb. 28. The first day of Losar is traditionally celebrated at home with family.
The City Council unanimously passed the bill to suspend ASP for Losar in January.
“To see Losar, our Tibetan New Year, recognized by the City of New York is a profound recognition of the tens of thousands of Tibetan New Yorkers," said Tsering Kelsang, President of the Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey.
Drivers are reminded that parking within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant is illegal and that painted curbs at hydrant locations do not indicate where they can park.
Cars parked near fire hydrants will be ticketed. Parking meters will remain in effect citywide.
