It's time for the men's singles final at the French Open as Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev battle it out at the Roland Garros, with a new 1st time champion coming in. 2016 was the last time we had a 1st time champion at the Roland Garros and Sunday will see one of these two stars etch their name into French Open history. However, Carlos Alcaraz enters the final as the hot-favourite to win the crown.
The Spaniard had a relatively easy run to the semi-final, where he came up against the new World No.1 Jannik Sinner. Both men are building towards a new high-profile rivalry in tennis and the match certainly lived up to the hype. Alcaraz found himself in trouble at a point when Sinner was leading 2-1 in the match. The Spaniard dug deep into his arsenal before completing a phenomenal comeback to get the win and become the youngest player in the Open era to reach the finals on all three surfaces.
Zverev's journey to the final wasn't an easy one. After having started with a statement victory over the legendary Rafael Nadal in the first round, he did find it difficult in the second and fourth rounds against Tallon Griekspoor and Holger Rune respectively. He would then get his revenge on Casper Ruud for his semi-final loss last year to make it to the summit clash this time around.
Alcaraz is 2-0 when it comes to major Grand Slam finals, while Zverev does have the experience of winning titles on the ATP tour, with his latest one coming in Rome.
Alcaraz vs Zverev: Head-to-Head
When it comes to the Head-to-Head stats, it is Zverev who leads the way with a scoreline of 5-4. The German beat the Spaniard in the Australian Open this year, while Alcaraz has won 2 out of 3 meetings on clay, but did lose the 2022 quarterfinal at Roland Garros to Zverev.
When and where to watch Alcaraz vs Zverev
