BATHINDA
: Shiromani Akali Dal leader from Gidderbaha,
Hardeep Singh Dimply Dhillon
reached a compromise in two defamation cases filed against him by Punjab Congress President and Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh
Raja Warring
and tendered unconditional apology to the latter in both cases. Upon it Raja Warring withdrew the suits from a court in Muktsar on Saturday.
Over two years ago
Dhillon
had made accusations against Raja Warring of selling petroleum products as transport minister and making embezzlement in a rice mill of his relatives. Raja Warring had filed defamation suits in court.
The matter was fixed in the court for Saturday that the Akali leader tendered unconditional apology and assured to take care in future. Going by it Raja Warring asked his counsel to withdraw the cases and the matter was solved.
Dimpy Dhillon and Raja Warring had contested against each other on two occasions in assembly elections from Gidderbaha in 2017 and 2022 and Raja Warring remained victorious on both the occasions. In 2022 Warring had won by 1349 votes from Dhillon and Gidderbaha turned out to be only one of very few assembly segments where Aam Aadmi Party candidate trailed to third spot.
Dhillon said, "The court asked both of us to end the matter as both are public figures and must not indulge in defamation. Both of us agreed for it and upon it the counsels typed a compromise asking us to sign over it wherein it was mentioned that I apologised and Warring accepted it."
Raja Warring said, "I welcome this and feel politicians should keep cordial social ties in personal life by keeping politics aside.”
