2024

hasn’t started off on that bright a note for

Google

employees.

Sundar Pichai

, CEO, Google, sent an internal memo indicating that there will be

job cuts

across teams in 2024. Pichai didn’t specify the number or the timeline but hinted that it will be less than the 12,000 jobs that were cut in 2023. He also said that unlike last time, not all teams will be affected. Amidst the news of job cuts, Google also sent a memo to all employees where it shared the company

goals

for 2024, as reported by The Verge.
According to the report by The Verge, there are seven goals that Google wants to achieve in 2024. One of the seven goals is to “build a Google that’s extraordinary for

Googlers

and the world.” Since Google is betting big and heavily investing in AI, it’s no surprise to see an AI-related goal on the list as well. “Deliver the world’s most advanced, safe, and responsible AI,” as noted by The Verge. Google has many

AI

models in work and has been categorical about ensuring safe and responsible AI.
Google also told employers that one of the goals is to “improve knowledge, learning, creativity, and productivity.” Not to forget its own devices — and others’ as well — one other goal is to “build the most helpful personal computing platforms and devices.”Also, Google wants to “provide the world’s most trusted products and platforms.” Furthermore, Google wants employees to “enable organisations and developers to innovate on Google Cloud.
It’s the last goal which might have employees worried as it hints at more cost-cutting measures. “Improve company velocity, efficiency, and productivity, and deliver durable cost savings,” is another goal which Google has set for its employees.
