NEW DELHI: Skipper
Sanju Samson
has been fined Rs 12 lakh for his team's
slow over rate
following the Rajasthan Royals' defeat against Gujarat Titans in a nail-biting IPL encounter on Wednesday.
The Titans, led by
Shubman Gill
, emerged victorious in a thrilling
last-ball finish
, ending the Royals' four-match winning streak in the tournament.
An IPL statement confirmed the fine, stating, "Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 10."
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh," the statement added.
In the match, Samson's impressive unbeaten knock of 68 off 38 deliveries, supported by Riyan Parag's blistering 78, the Royals posted a formidable total of 196 for 3.
However, Gujarat Titans, propelled by skipper Gill's fine 72 at the top and a crucial cameo innings by Afghanistan spinner
Rashid Khan
(24 off 11 deliveries), successfully chased down the target on the final delivery of the match.
The fine serves as a reminder to teams to maintain the required over rate standards as per the IPL's regulations, ensuring smooth and timely completion of matches.
