England will look to keep their Super 8 hopes alive when they cross swords with Namibia on Saturday, June 15 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The Three Lions made a slow start to the tournament and right now, they do not have their fate in their own hands. Even if they beat Namibia, they will need Richie Berrington’s Scotland to beat Australia.
The Brits, however, will be high on confidence after beating Oman by 8 wickets. After bowling Aqib Ilyas’ men for 47, they chased down the target in 3.1 overs. Jos Buttler’s men were clinical to the extent that they increased their net run rate to +3.081 from a disastrous -1.800. Adil Rashid, the World No.1 T20I spinner, won the Player of the Match award for his 4-wicket haul.
Jofra Archer and Mark Wood also contributed with 3 wickets apiece. Phil Salt showed more intent when he started off the English innings with back-to-back sixes off left-arm pacer Bilal Khan. England need 2 more matches to go in their favour to enter the second round.
Namibia, on the other hand, would be playing for pride. They started with a win over Oman, but have looked lacklustre since then. Against Australia, they were bowled out for 72 in 17 overs. Making things worse, the Aussies chased down the target inside the powerplay.
