Adults with disabilities celebrate success at Victory Games in Queens

NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s Follow-up Friday, and Monica has made it happen.

Hundreds of Queens adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities competed in outdoor activities at the annual Victory Games at Victory Field at Forest Park.

Last year, PIX11 News followed the inspiring journey of 54-year-old Eddie Morell, who spent months training for his big moment, kicking off the opening ceremonies of a very special day.

This year, he was the star again.

Back on June 6, 2022, PIX11 News met Lyn Thomas, a Brooklyn nanny who had dreamed of finishing college for over thirty years and did it. At 48, she got her GED, and at 52, she graduated from college at BMCC. This week, Thomas graduated with honors from Hunter College with her Bachelor of Science degree in public health.

In uptown Manhattan, Margie Torres, 64, from the Lexington Houses in East Harlem, contacted PIX11 News for help getting repairs in her bathroom.

She was told it would take a year!

Days after our story aired, she got the repairs she needed.
