NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians skipper
Harmanpreet Kaur
has emphasized the critical need for
adaptability
as her team gears up to
defend their title
in the upcoming
Women's Premier League
(
WPL
), slated to kick off from February 23 to March 17.
The inaugural edition champions, who clinched victory last year in Mumbai, will now face the challenge of acclimatizing to new conditions in Bengaluru and New Delhi.
In a recent interview with PTI TV during the WPL's pre-season media conference, Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the shift in playing venues and stressed the importance of swiftly adjusting to the different conditions.
She stated, "The conditions in Bengaluru will be different than Mumbai. I don't have much experience of playing in Delhi, so I don't have any idea how the wickets will fare in Delhi. If we can just quickly adapt to these things, this will show how good we are as a team."
Harmanpreet further elaborated on the team's strategy, indicating that the composition of the playing eleven would be contingent upon the prevailing conditions.
"It is important for any team to have as many good players in the team as possible because then you can pick the best eleven. There is also competition for places among players. We will make our playing eleven according to conditions," she remarked.
Despite the absence of home support this year, Mumbai Indians remain optimistic about replicating their last season's success. Harmanpreet Kaur emphasized the importance of continuous improvement within the squad, stressing that their victory in the previous edition was a result of collective effort rather than individual brilliance.
"Our players have done really well in the last season. It was a complete team performance, we were not dependent on one or two players. This year our goal will be the same and try to add some good things and play according to situations," she asserted.
Additionally, Harmanpreet expressed her personal commitment to making significant contributions with the bat, particularly at the crucial No.4 position. She acknowledged the pivotal role her batting performance plays in shaping the team's strategy and emphasized the need to adapt to varying match situations accordingly.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Harmanpreet Kaur also voiced hopes of discovering new talent, highlighting the Women's Premier League as an excellent platform for domestic players to showcase their skills and potentially earn recognition at a higher level.
