NEW YORK (PIX11) – Actor Jonathan Majors will be sentenced Tuesday in a Manhattan court after he was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend back in December.
The 34-year-old faces up to a year behind bars, but the verdict has already impacted his career. The star of "Creed III" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" has been dropped from all upcoming Marvel projects.
Surveillance video was a key piece of evidence during the trial. It showed a scuffle between Majors and his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, as they got out of an SUV.
The incident happened last March near Centre and Canal streets. prosecutors said the video showed Majors aggressively pushing Jabbari into the car over and over again.
The video then showed Majors leaving and Jabbari following him before the two got into another argument seconds later. Prosecutors said the incident left Jabbari with injuries indicative of a relationship of what they called "control, domination, manipulation and abuse."
Majors' attorney argued the actor was the victim in this case. They argued that after the couple fought, they spent the night apart.
His lawyer said when Majors went back to their penthouse the next day, he called 911 as Jabbari was unresponsive behind a locked door.
The attorney said, "His fear of what happens when a Black man in America calls 911 came true."
Majors was acquitted of two other charges of aggravated harassment and assault. His sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m.
