NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad opener
Abhishek Sharma
on Tuesday became the first uncapped player to score 1,000 IPL runs for the Orange Army.
The youngster got to the milestone in the away clash against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur after the hosts invited SRH to bat first.
Opening the innings for SRH, Abhishek crossed the 1,000-run mark during his short 11-ball 16 stay in the middle in which he struck a couple of fours and a six.
After raising the feat, the 23-year-old was dismissed in fifth over of the innings when he came charging down the track off Sam Curran but miscued the drive and was caught by Shashank Singh at cover-point.
Despite scoring only 16 in the game against PBKS, Abhishek has had a decent season so far.
He has scored 177 runs in 5 matches and has a strike rate of over 208, including a half-century.
In the mid-table clash between PBKS and SRH, the visitors got off to a wobbly start, losing 4 in the first half of their innings.
Both SRH and PBKS have 2 wins and 2 defeats in 4 matches and sit at 5th and 6th spot respectively on the points table.
