NEW DELHI:
Green Bay Packers
' running back
Aaron Jones
has rekindled his peak form at a crucial juncture, propelling the team to secure the final wild-card berth in the
NFC
. Over the past three games, Jones has showcased his prowess by rushing for a minimum of 112 yards in each, playing a pivotal role in the Packers' triumphant run.
Jones, 29, overcame hamstring and knee injuries that had plagued his season, culminating in a resurgence that proved instrumental in the Packers earning a playoff spot.
The team finished the regular season with a 9-8 record, setting the stage for a playoff clash against the Dallas
Cowboys
on Sunday.
His return to top form is particularly timely as Jones heads back to his home state to face the Cowboys. A product of Burges High School in El Paso and a standout at UTEP, Jones has a stellar record against the Cowboys, having rushed for 370 yards and scored six touchdowns in three previous encounters.
Speaking about the significance of facing the Cowboys, Jones shared, "It was my childhood team growing up, and then back home in El Paso, there’s a lot of Cowboys fans. I like to walk the streets with some peace of mind, not worrying about having to hear them talk. I feel like that’s the biggest thing."
Jones has consistently delivered standout performances against the Cowboys, making a name for himself since his rookie season in 2017. In his first career start that year, he rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown, marking a memorable moment in his burgeoning career.
Despite facing injury setbacks this season, Jones has illustrated resilience and dedication to the Packers. His journey included overcoming a left hamstring injury early in the season and later missing games due to a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. However, Jones' impact extends beyond his on-field contributions, uplifting the team with his presence.
His commitment to the Packers was further underscored when he restructured his contract, willingly taking a pay cut to remain with the team. Recognized for his leadership qualities, Jones, a two-time nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, has been a driving force behind the Packers' late-season surge.
