GANDHINAGAR: In a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, its

MLA

Bhupendra

Bhayani

tendered his resignation to assembly speaker Shankar Chaudhary on Wednesday and said that he will be joining BJP soon. With this, the number of AAP MLAs in the

Gujarat assembly

has reduced from five to four.
Bhayani was elected MLA from Visavadar constituency in Junagadh.

In his one-line resignation letter, Bhayani did not mention the reason behind his decision. Gujarat assembly secretary DM Patel said, “The speaker has accepted Bhayani’s resignation.”
Speaking to reporters later, Bhayani said, AAP was not the right platform to serve people.d. “I will be joining the BJP soon because I originally belong to that party and worked for it for nearly 22 years before being elected MLA,” Bhayani added.
Gujarat AAP chief Isudan Gadhvi claimed, BJP “tortured and compelled Bhayani to resign as AAP MLA”. “BJP has been trying to break AAP since the beginning. Soon after last year’s polls, the ruling BJP contacted Bhayani and asked him to switch sides. When Bhayani declined, he was tortured and compelled to resign.”
