Punjab Congress leader Mohammad Gulab, who has been put in charge of the Chhattisgarh party minority cell, and Ranjeet Singh Bedi from Delhi, attended the meeting, which was their first visit to Chhattisgarh after their appointment.
The agenda focused on defining the responsibilities of the minority cell in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and in facilitating Rahul's Yatra as it traverses through Chhattisgarh, said state Congress minority cell president Ameen Meman.
The meeting was extremely significant yet several office-bearers did not turn up, despite prior intimation, Meman said, adding that showcause notices have been sent to 88 office-bearers for the absenteeism.
Those showcaused include nine party state vice-presidents, 19 state general secretaries, 51 state secretaries, and nine district presidents. They have warned that disciplinary measures will be initiated if they don't submit an explanation within three days.
Around 120 office-bearers of the state minority cell participated in the session and engaged in constructive discussions on Rahul's forthcoming visit, said a party leader.
The meeting, convened at Rajiv Bhavan, the Congress HQ in Raipur, discussed the minority cell's role in the upcoming political activities. State minority commission chairman Mahendra Chhabra and Chhattisgarh Urdu Academy chairman Idris Gandhi were among those present.
