NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu and French President Emanuel Macron arrived at the Kartavya Path in a traditional buggy for the
75th Republic Day
celebrations. This marked the return of the buggy after a gap of
40 years
. The presidents were accompanied by the President's Bodyguard, also known as 'Rashtrapati Ke Angrakshak', which is the oldest regiment of the Indian Army.
At the end of the ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu and the chief guest of the Republic Day Parade, French President Emmanuel Macron, were accompanied by the President's Bodyguard as they departed for Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The President's Bodyguard holds the distinction of being the senior-most regiment in the Indian Army. This Republic Day holds special significance for this esteemed regiment, as the 'Angrakshak' celebrates 250 years of dedicated service since its establishment in 1773.
Colonel Amit Berwal, the Commandant of the President's Bodyguard, rode to the right of the President's Buggy, leading this elite group of horsemen. On the left side of the President's Buggy was Lt Col Ramakant Yadav, the Second-in-Command of the Regiment.
Spectators of the parade were captivated by the impressive display of courage in the Indian motorcycle exhibition and air show, which marked the grand finale of the event.
Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu initiated the 75th Republic Day celebrations by unfurling the national flag at Kartavya Path.
