7-foot shark spotted close to shore at Long Island beach: officials

LIDO BEACH, N.Y. (PIX11) – A seven-foot shark was spotted just 25 feet from the shore at Lido Beach on Tuesday, according to officials.

It prompted lifeguards to evacuate the waters and close the beach around 5 p.m. The beach reopened an hour later, with swimming allowed, per officials.

The Town of Hempstead is tracking the shark's location, according to officials.

It's the second shark sighting in two days. NYPD drones spotted a shark off the coast of Rockaway Beach in Queens on Sunday.
