5-year-old boy fatally struck by driver in Queens: NYPD

QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A 5-year-old boy was fatally struck by a driver in the College Point neighborhood of Queens Saturday evening, according to police.

Police from the 109th precinct responded to a 911 call for a vehicle collision near 20-19 124 Street a few minutes past 6 p.m., authorities stated.

'I was sitting nearby when a man got out of the car and screamed where were the boy's parents," said a witness at the park at the time of the incident. "Myself and other people ran over to see what happened,  but the child was under the car's tire."

According to police, the driver of the vehicle was driving Southbound on 124 Street when the 5-year-old boy ran into the street. The driver struck the boy with a Honda.

The child suffered injuries to the head. The boy was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead. The police said the driver remained at the scene of the accident.
