As the winter chill sets in, our dietary needs also change to adapt to the colder weather. Adding particular foods to the diet can be beneficial for our health during the season.

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, meanwhile, has shared a video on Instagram about three essential foods that must be consumed during winter - gond (edible gum), green garlic and turnip. The nutritionist noted how people these days are forgetting to include them in their diet.

Sharing the health benefits of gond, Rujuta said that it is a natural laxative and hence good for gut health. She added that consuming it also strengthens the bones. Gond can be relished during winter in the form of laddoos and halwa. She also noted how this ingredient has also been used in post-partum rituals in the country.

Green garlic is another winter gem recommended by Rujuta Diwekar for its robust health benefits. It can be used to make a chutney or used as an ingredient while cooking vegetables. It is rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients, making it an excellent addition to winter meals.

Last but not the list, Rujuta talked about the importance of including turnips in the winter diet. Rich in fibre and micro-minerals, Rujuta said it is extremely nutritious and also good for eye health.

Other things that Rujuta Diwekar suggests one must add to their diet during winter are bajra, jaggery and ghee, kulith pulse and til (sesame seeds) and white butter.
