BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Three people were arrested Monday related to a fatal attack on a Bronx subway, according to sources.

Justin Herde, 24, Alfredo Trinidad, 42 and Betty Cotto, 38, were arrested Monday morning, days after being identified as suspects in Friday's attack onboard a D train approaching the 182nd–183rd Streets station, according to the NYPD and sources.

The three stand accused of physically assaulting and killing 45-year-old William Alvarez, but police were not clear whether Alvarez was shot or stabbed to death, according to the NYPD.

The violence started around 5 a.m. Friday when Alvarez got into an argument with one of the suspected attackers on a southbound D train, according to NYPD Chief of Transportation Michael Kemper.

The two other suspects jumped into the fight, ultimately killing Alvarez, who had a wound “consistent with either a gunshot or a puncture wound from a sharp object,” Kemper said.

Police had surveillance camera footage of the incident.

It was the second fatal attack on a Bronx subway in just 11 days.

"We have to talk broadly about safety across our city and across the Bronx, but specifically what's happening on our subway," said Borough President Vanessa Gibson.
