NEW JERSEY (PIX11) --- Three aftershocks were reported hours after a 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit Califon, New Jersey Friday morning, officials said.
A 2.0-magnitude aftershock happened at 1:14 p.m., followed by a 2.2-magnitude aftershock at around 1:30 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey. The first aftershock occurred at around 11:15 a.m., officials said.
The initial earthquake struck roughly 60 miles west of Manhattan at around 10:23 a.m., and was felt throughout New York City and much of the northeast.
Approximately 42 million people felt the earthquake, per USGS. It appears to have shaken areas as far south as the D.C. area and as far north as the New York-Canada border. The shaking lasted several seconds.
There were no injuries or structural damages reported in New York City, but three buildings in Newark were deemed unsafe.
