, didn't come out to field on day four as the visitors resumed their chase of 399 to win.
"Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won't be taking the field today," the BCCI shared the update on social media.
Gill roared back to form with his third Test century on Sunday, breaking free from a 12-innings long streak of poor scores and wasted starts in the longer format
It was Gill's third century in Test cricket, and he ended up scoring 104 in 147 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.
The knock helped India set England a daunting target of 399 to win.
Besides Gill's century, contributions from Axar Patel (45), Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Shreyas Iyer (29) helped India add to their first-innings lead of 143.
The hosts were bowled out for 255 in their second innings, with spinners Tom Hartley (4/77) and Rehan Ahmed (3/88) being the pick of the bowlers for England.
The visitors resumed their chase at 67 for 1.
