EAST ELMHURST, Queens (PIX11) -- Two NYPD officers were shot in Queens early Monday morning, police said.
The shooting happened near 23rd Avenue and 82nd Street in East Elmhurst around 1:40 a.m., according to the NYPD. The officers were chasing the suspect down the street when the suspect opened fire, police said.
One officer was grazed in the stomach below their bullet-proof vest, according to the NYPD. Information regarding the second officer's injury was not immediately available. Both officers were taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.
At least one of the officers returned fire and shot the suspect in the ankle, police said. The suspect was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in police custody.
