2 men sentenced to 40+ years in prison in 2020 Brooklyn shooting death of boy, 1

BED-STUY, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Two men convicted in the fatal shooting of a toddler in Brooklyn in the summer of 2020 have learned their fate.

Dashawn Austin was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison in the death of Davell Gardner Jr. Austin was convicted of firing at a group of people during a cookout in Bed-Stuy while in the passenger seat of a car.

One of the bullets struck Gardner, who was in a stroller, according to authorities. Three men were also shot.

Akeem Artis, the driver of the car, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison after he was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter.
