THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Two men were indicted after allegedly attacking an NYPD officer who asked them to put out their cigarettes in a Bronx subway station, according to Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark.

Izayiah Jessamy, 20, and Karrem McClary, 23, were charged with assault and harassment. The two men were allegedly smoking cigarettes inside the Freeman Street subway station on Nov. 13 when they were approached by the officer, who told them they couldn't smoke in the station, officials said.

The men allegedly refused to put out their cigarettes and tried to go through the emergency gate at the station to avoid paying a fare, according to officials. When they were stopped by the officer, Jessamy and McClary allegedly punched him multiple times in the head, officials said.

The men were arraigned Monday and are expected back in court on June 3.
