Two lionesses fell into an open well while chasing a nilgai
near Dhari town
close to the Gir (east) forest in
Gujarat's
Amreli district Saturday. While one died, foresters managed to rescue the other feline. The lionesses belonged to a group of lions that made their habitat on the outskirts of Dhari. "We got a message about the lionesses early morning.
On reaching the site, we found hoof marks of the nilgai," said Rajdeepsinh Jhala, deputy conservator of forest, Gir (east) forest division. A cot tied with a rope was lowered into the well to rescue the lioness.
